Cancer

Cancer is often referred to as the micro-evolutionary process, because it is the result of a group of cells evolving to gain a selective advantage relative to surrounding cells and tissues. This advantage, acquired by a small group of cells, is of course very dangerous to the host organism. Often, this advantage is the result of protein evolution. In this BioHazards module you will learn how proteins can evolve to make a cell malignant (cancerous) and how the cell constantly operates to prevent this malignancy. In this module you find yourself in the cell, taking control of the cells cancer-prevention machinery; how long can you keep your cell cancer free?!
